A wedding is a special day, a day that creates memories that last a lifetime. My wedding day in Santorini in 2004 will forever be engraved in my memory, not only because of my wonderful moments but also because of the challenges my husband -to -be and I faced trying to organise a wedding by ourselves!
Those days there where no wedding planners on the island and we tried to do everything by ourselves.
We knew that we absolutely had to get married on the island that we had fallen in love with and where we had fallen in love all over again, but the paperwork, trying to find a church, a venue for the reception, a hairstylist, someone to do the flowers and a wedding cake, etc. all from far away, proved to be too much.
Chaos! Oh, how I would have loved to have had a wedding planner so I could relax and enjoy the whole experience, get excited and at the same time to know that everything was taken care of and the wedding would be exactly as I wanted, down to the last detail...
The result was that we did get married in Santorini, but there were no flowers, I had to do my own make up and nails, my wedding cake was not what I had asked for and the photographer was amateur at best and the DJ had never worked at a wedding before and only knew about club music.
Nevertheless, the magnificent beauty and the inspiring views of the island saved the day, because no matter what happens, Santorini is a magical place that take your breathe away and as the Greek saying goes, those who marry in Santorini, stay married!
Meeting Fotini was a light bulb moment, she had a passion for weddings, the likes of which I had never seen before. We both knew that there was a deep need for wedding planners who understood the needs of the bride and groom to be and we knew that we could fulfill that need.
My years of experience within the events and hospitality field in Cape Town, South Africa where I am from, has allowed me to gain invaluable experience which I feel so privileged to share with you.
